Evening Out

My wife and went out last night alone(yeehaa)for the first time in quite a while. We attended a fundraising BBQ that supports a local youth organization here in Pittsburgh. The cows didn't have a chance ( I apologize to any vegetarians who read this blog). Steak, chicken, brisket, ribs and hot dogs, with all the trimmings as far as the eye could see. There must have been 250 people there with one thing on their minds, EATING! Half way through my mission I thought that I should have called the hospital to schedule an angioplasty, but I didn't and I'm still here. Anyway, we had a wonderful time being adults for a change. The people we sat with made the evening that much more enjoyable. The guys were talking about guy stuff and the ladies were talking about shoes. Can anyone tell me why women always end up talking about shoes? I mean really, there ARE more important things to talk about isn't there?

A lovely evening spent with wonderful people to help support a good cause. Certainly a great way to end the day.

Sounds like some events we used to attend in Oklahoma. Those Okies loooove their beef ;)
It's good to get out occasionally.

But what else is safe to talk about among people who don't know each other very well?

In this polarized climate, it's much safer to avoid politics and major world events, unless you want to start a riot. The weather gets boring after a while. And sports are . . . games. How is talking about games any different or worse than talking about shoes?

In short - most women don't care *that* much about shoes. But we're supposed to; it's an acceptable thing to talk about. So we talk about shoes and diapers and pedicures once we've thoroughly covered the weather.
