Back to Our Normal

I told you all that I would get back to you regarding my "Daddy and Me" weekend. For those just tuning in, read my last post it will clarify the following:

Well, it was one heck of a weekend. My wife and Little Peanut will be flying back from Florida tonight. I spoke with her every day and it sounded as if it was a successful vacation, although we both agreed that it was time to be a complete family again. I missed her and Little Peanut, and she missed me and our other two. This may sound a little weird, but I left Little Peanuts dirty bib on her chair to make it feel like she had just eaten and still around. It's a comfort thing I guess. I will pick them up tonight.

As for my long weekend, we had a blast. I took the kids to the local playground, went to the amusement park, and had a cook-out. My mother came along to help out. Let me just say, my mother is no spring chicken, she's not old old either, she'll be turning 65 next month. I find it amazing what grandparents will do for their grandchildren. I can't remember a time when I was growing up that my mother went on a ride with me. I think the merry-go-round was it. She was terrified of anything that moved in an unnatural way. Anyway, she VOLUNTEERED to go on the Cups and Saucers, Round About and some other ride that took you high up and spun you around. AGAIN, MY MOTHER DOESN'T LIKE ANYTHING THAT MOVES DRASTICALLY AND SHE IS TERRIFIED OF HEIGHTS. She did this all for her grandchildren. She and the kids had a blast. My mother came over to me afterwards and said, and I quote "that it's moments like these that are important in life, beautiful moments that can never be taken away". I stood there in wonderment and saw the joy and love she has for her grandchildren.

The kids and I had tremendous fun during the days of our time together, but when bed time was upon us, we all felt a little home sick for Little Peanut and mommy. It just goes to show that when the world is moving at a million miles a minute, going through all the daily routines, you sometimes forget the things that make you a family. I think we all learned a lot this weekend.

Did I forget to mention that I did all the dishes, finished the laundry, and ran the sweeper. I only broke one glass, killed a pair of pants (mine). I don't think it was my fault. It appears that a string from the cuff got caught in the dryer. Also, I think we need a new sweeper. Not because I broke it, I didn't, we just need more power.
